Public Facility in Jakarta must Be Friendly to Disabled People

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama acknowledged transport facility in the capital is not friendly to disabled people yet. He also encouraged all regional working units (SKPD) and Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) to expand its facilities for the convenience of disabled people.

"We cannot serve them (disabled people) well. That's why from sidewalk, bus stop, and bus must conform," he stated, at City Hall, Friday (3/11).

He added, they still difficulty in using public transport. Yet they also need for mobility and daily activity.

"I do not want people to use a wheelchair, and use a cane (blind) are confused how to get off the bus," he said.

According to him, many disabled people are from middle-lower class. So they limit themselves to go out and conduct activity.

"Many cannot go out from the house due to disabled. Because they are from middle-lower class. Moreover, our bus cannot serve them well now. In future, this should not happen anymore," he stressed.
